JPMorgan Chase is launching a new digital asset, the JPMD token, on Coinbase’s second-layer Base network. The token will initially be available only to institutional clients. JPMD is a tokenized bank deposit that can earn interest and settle on the blockchain, including cross-border transfers.
As a bank representative explained, JPMD offers the benefits of stablecoins, but also provides deposit insurance, compatibility with traditional accounts, and participation in interest programs. This is the first time that JPMorgan has used a public blockchain.
