EU countries have banded together to create their own blockchain platform called Europeum. The initiative aims to reduce dependence on its US counterparts.
Europeum will be used for a variety of purposes, including:
- Traceability of food origin: This will provide greater transparency in the food supply chain and help in the fight against adulteration.
- Intellectual Property Protection.
- Ensuring the confidentiality of data.
“The implementation of Europeum will allow Europe to play a more active role in the digital sphere,” said Belgian Secretary of State for Digitalization Mathieu Michel. – It is high time we created our own sovereign infrastructure so that we are not dependent on American companies.”
