The new rules, drafted by the BCB together with the Financial systеm Supervisory Authority (ASFI) and the Financial Investigation Unit (UIF), aim to regulate cryptocurrency transactions and ensure compliance with the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering in Latin America (GAFILAT).

GAFILAT has previously urged Bolivia to adapt to new trends in the global financial and digital economy. The legalization of cryptocurrencies is part of this adaptation.

It is important to note that the BCB emphasized that virtual assets are still not legal tender in Bolivia.
